From the Seneschal
Spring has finally sprung!
It's almost time to put away your heavy woolens (hey, I almost said it
is Colorado after all) and take stock of your camping gear. Signs of
Spring are all over the Canton.
Sunday gatherings have begun again. Please join us every Sunday
from 10 am to PM (weather permitting) at the SE corner of
Cornerstone park. We will have expanded activities this season so
look for notes on upcoming classes and happenings on the Readstan
list.
We also have a new Workshop night in the Canton. These may be
classes or just project nights. They are every Wednesday except for
the Wednesday that the business meeting falls on.
Our next Philosophy Night is at Fynn and Morwyn's on Sat the 28th
of April. Watch for directions on the list or contact them directly
(their contact information is in this issue).
Finally, Mountain Mayhem is coming up fast. If you have time to
help please do so. This is a great fundraiser for the canton and a fun
event all around.

From the Chronicler
Unto the populace of the incipient canton of Readstan come these
greetings from Lijsbet vande Visschereye~
April's showers bring May flowers. And the first Heliotrope Herald of
the year. We skipped February due to Estrella and associated mayhem.
This issue is chock full of information about one of Readstan’s two
flagship events of the year, Mountain Mayhem. Once again, it promises
to be a fun - and profitable - event.
In the editorial content department, I’d like to thank April’s
contributors. Remember that almost anything of interest to SCA folks
is welcome. If you e-mail it to me at lijsbet@comcast.net, I’ll consider
your personal submission to be your consent to publish.
Of note this month is a new web page for the (incipient) canton.
http://readstan.caerthe.org/index.html Please take a look and let me
know what you want added, and any broken links and typos. It’s still
very much under construction, so keep that in mind. I hope you find
it useful and enjoyable.
In service -
Mistress Lijsbet vande Visschereye, OL

Notices
We are currently in the process of planning our May 19 event, Mountain Mayhem. As part of the day’s activities, we will be
having a Silent Auction, featuring items from area businesses. I am doing much of the footwork on this myself, but if you have
businesses that you patronize on a regular basis, it would be great if you would be willing to ask them to donate to this event. Please
contact me if you would like me to send you the letter that I have prepared for this purpose – it contains our tax information.
(I also would love to have help manning the tent on the day!)
Thank you,
Ansteys Darcy

It’s the season for getting out in the garden and cleaning up winter’s detritus. I don’t know about your garden, but mine is a
mess after that heavy snow that lingered for weeks. However, the chives are abundant, and promise to be the precursor of a bountiful
herb harvest. My kitchen garden is a collection of herbs used in period foods. If you are in need of any herbs for SCA or modern
cookery, please let me know. An used herb garden is a productive herb garden.

A Challenge
A Challenge to all Artisans:
Whereas our Kingdom is known to be home to some of the finest artisans in the World – noted far and wide for their skill and
generosity of spirit;
Page 5
Whereas Readstan will be hosting Mountain Mayhem upon the Feast Day of Saint Ives, the Patron of the Poor, and a Pas de Arms
soon after Michaelmas;
And
Whereas recent events have brought to my hand numerous promissories from a draper in this vicinity,
I, Ansteys Darcy, would fain issue a Challenge:
Be it known throughout our Barony and into the surrounding lands, that Prizes are needed for Readstan’s forthcoming events.
Therefore do I pledge a prize of my own to the most generous artisan (being the one who donates the greatest number of Prizes of
Quality), and another to the one who pleases me most in this endeavor.
The aforementioned works should be put into my hands before New Year’s Day Anno Societatis XLII, being the first day of May
of this year, that the efforts of all may be recognized at Mountain Mayhem.
Assuredly I do thank you!
